Research Staff Presents at Nutrition Incentive Hub Convening

NRCFCP staff Anne Abbott and Renee Ling presented at the 2022 Nutrition Incentive Hub National Convening on Wednesday January 19, 2022. Their presentation covered lessons learned from the NRCFCP's longstanding partnership with the Iowa Healthiest State Initiative's Double Up Food Bucks program. The presentation was a part of a panel discussion titled Demonstrating Impact: Getting the Most Out of Evaluation Efforts.

Coohey and Landsman Named ICSMH Faculty Research Affiliates

School of Social Work Professors Carol Coohey and Miriam Landsman have been named faculty research affiliates at the new Iowa Center on School Mental Health (ICSMH). A partnership between the University of Iowa and the Iowa Department of Education, the ICSMH will expand support for mental health to Pre-K-12 educators and schools across the state.

NRCFCP Training Division Awarded $3M to Support Mental Health Peer Support in Iowa

The University of Iowa National Resource Center for Family Centered Practice (NRCFCP) at the School of Social Work, and the UI Department of Pediatrics Division of Child and Community Health, in partnership with Life Connections Peer Recovery Services of DeWitt, Iowa, have been awarded funding from the State of Iowa to support the Iowa Peer Workforce Collaborative—a project that will provide comprehensive training and coordination for the state’s Peer Support Specialists, Family Peer Support Specialists, and Recovery Peer Coaches and the organizations that employ them.

NRC Public Health Team members Anne Abbott, Stephanie Momany and Sydney Tylke presented a poster at the 12th Annual Conference on the Science of Dissemination and Implementation in Health. The poster presentation, Evaluating Multi-Component Interventions for Childhood Obesity Using the Re-Aim Framework was based on the team's work conducting a mixed-methods evaluation of the the Iowa Department of Public Health's 5-2-1-0: Healthy Choices Count program in fiscal year 2019.

NRC and National Association of Social Workers Iowa Chapter Release Assessment of Iowa Social Work Labor Force

The National Resource Center for Family Centered Practice (NRCFCP) at the University of Iowa has released a report based on an assessment of Iowa’s social work labor force: Meeting the Needs of Iowans Through the Services of Professional Social Workers. The study was conducted by NRCFCP and NASW-IA,  with support from Telligen Community Initiatives and the National Association of Social Workers Foundation.

NRC Director Dr. Miriam Landsman and Training Director Lisa D’Aunno presented at the international conference, Effective Strategies for Working with Involuntary Clients, held May 23-25, 2018 in Prato, Italy. Their workshop, Child Welfare Supervision as a Key Strategy for Providing Effective Involuntary Services, based was on the National Resource Center’s extensive experience with developing, implementing, and evaluating training for supervisors of child welfare and family support programs.

Training Available to Support New Infant Mental Health Grants

SAMHSA has announced the availability of up to $23.4 million for Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health grants.  The purpose of this program is to improve outcomes for young children by developing, maintaining, or enhancing infant and early childhood mental health promotion, intervention, and treatment services, including programs for infants and children at significant risk of developing, showing early signs of, or having been diagnosed with a mental illness, including a serious emotional disturbance (SED).

D'Aunno Completes Listening Tour of Montana

NRC Training Director Lisa D’Aunno recently completed a 10-stop listening tour of Montana to assist the states’ Child and Family Services Division (CFSD) in their efforts to keep more children safely in their homes. During her time in “Big Sky Country”, D’Aunno engaged and collected feedback from stakeholders at public and private child welfare agencies.
